MANILA, Philippines – The patriarch of the Espina political clan – Gerardo “Gerry” Sabinay Espina Sr – of Billiran province in Eastern Visayas passed away Wednesday, February 6.

Espina succumbed to pneumonia. He was 77.

In a statement released Wednesday, House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr said: “We join the good people of Biliran in mourning over the passing of their beloved leader, former Congressman Gerardo Espina. Gerry was a dear friend and colleague. He was a scholar, outstanding legislator, a learned professor, a gifted writer and singer.”
