DAVAO CITY, Philippines -The government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) will create a team that will monitor, review and assess the implementation of the Framework Agreement on the Bangsamoro and its annexes, a senior rebel leader said.
Jun Mantawil, MILF peace panel secretariat chief, said the Third Party Monitoring Team (TPMT) will consist of 5-7 members headed by an “international eminent person.”
“Two others may be appointed as additional eminent persons by the Parties,” Mantawil added.
Mantawil explained that 2 members of the monitoring team will be coming from two international non-government organization, with one nominated by the government, and the other, selected by the MILF.
The last two members will come from two domestic NGOs, Mantawil said.
He added that both peace panels will mutually decide the final list of the monitoring team.
Mantawil said the TPMT was created last January 25 and will be formally organized within a month.
The rebel leader also said the MILF is “seriously considering someone from Europe to head the TPMT,” adding that the group is also eyeing a revered Muslim person. – Rappler.com
