MANILA, Philippines – An Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) bound for Saudi Arabia returned an envelope containing some 200,000 Japanese Yen — over P80,000 — she found in the lobby of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 on Wednesday, May 8.
Cavite native Myrna dela Cruz, an OFW working in a hospital in Saudi Arabia as a physical therapist, found the envelope containing cash under one of the chairs in the airport lobby while waiting for her 9:30 a.m flight.
The envelope, according to dela Cruz, was wrapped in packaging tape and written with the words “to Mommy and Daddy from Aileen. I Miss You”.
The envelope also contains a marriage contract registered to Narvel Rodriguez and Fretzie Belarmino, both from Cavite.
Dela Cruz said she immediately tried to find the owner through the airport’s paging system before turning over the envelope to Lt. Edgar Ridad, one of the police officers in the area.
“I have no interest whatever on the amount inside the envelope because I can earn more than that. I am receiving P42,000 to P50,000 a month including overtime as a therapist,” she said.
“The money might be needed by the person who left this envelope. We paged for the owner of the envelope for a while but no one claimed,” Ridad said.
The police officer said the money is currently deposited in the lost and found area of NAIA and can be claimed by the owners anytime. – Rappler.com
