BACOOR CITY, Philippines (UPDATED) – A fire hit a residential area in this city in Cavite, south of Metro Manila, late afternoon of Wednesday, June 5, but it was immediately contained by authorities.

The Bacoor police said the fire in Barangay Talaba 6, a crowded area near the foot of the flyover leading to the Cavite coastal road, started at around 5 pm.

The fire reached 2nd alarm before it was put under control as of 6:29 p.m., according to the Bacoor fire department. Firemen from the neighboring town of Kawit in Cavite, and Parañque, which is two cities away, assisted in putting out the fire.

FO2 Paglito de Castro of the Bacoor fire department told Rappler that the fire started in a house where dinner being cooked was left unattended.

Thirty families lost their homes.
