5 Army soldiers abducted
MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) - Communist rebels abducted 5 Army soldiers on Monday afternoon, June 17, in Davao City, according to a police report reaching Rappler on Tuesday, June 18.
The 5 soldiers of the Army's 66th infantry battalion were seized while on their way to Barangay Mapula in Davao City on board two motorcycles. They were coming from Panabo City, Davao del Norte.
Their officer, a certain Lt Canitan, "was able to escape and fled directly to the Peace and Development Outreach Program Team of Barangay Paquibato Proper and reported the incident," the police report added.
The abducted soldiers were identified as Corporal Emmanuel Quezon, Private First Class Ronald Gura, Pfc Bernie Padilla, Pfc Donato Estandia and Private Marteniano Pasiagas Jr.
The police said the guerrillas were led by a certain Ryan Pitao.
