Storm signal in 13 areas over Gorio

MANILA, Philippines – The state weather bureau on Friday afternoon, June 28, raised storm warning signal number 1 in 13 areas over tropical depression Gorio, which has sped up and moved toward Eastern Visayas.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) raised signal number 1 in the following areas: 

• Camarines Norte;

• Camarines Sur;

• Catanduanes;

• Albay;

• Sorsogon;

• Burias Island;

• Masbate;

• Polilio Island;

• Samar;

• Leyte Provinces;

• Biliran Island;

• Dinagat Island; and

• Siargao Island;

PAGASA lowered the storm signal it earlier raised over Northern, Eastern, and Western Samar. At 11 am on Friday, it placed only 5 areas under storm warning signal number 1.

PAGASA said as of 4 pm, it spotted Gorio at 290 kilometers east of Surigao City. It packs maximum winds of 55 km/h near the center, and is forecast to move west northwest at 19 km/h.

Gorio is expected at 60 km southeast of Catarman, northern Samar by Saturday afternoon, June 29.

Then by Sunday, June 30, it is likely at 40 km northeast of Infanta, Quezon. By Monday afternoon, July 1, it is seen at 150 km west of Laoag City.
