CEBU CITY, Philippines – Cebu Archbishop Emeritus Ricardo Cardinal Vidal suffered a mild stroke on Tuesday, September 17, and is now recuperating at a hospital here.

Father Joseph “Jojo” Aquino, the cardinal’s secretary, said the prelate was rushed to Perpetual Succor Hospital at around noon Tuesday.

Vidal was about to eat his lunch in his residence at Sto Niño Village, Barangay Banilad, when he had the stroke.

“Everything was sudden. He (Vidal) was just relaxing when he had the stroke,” he told Rappler.

Aquino said Vidal is already in stable condition and was asked to stay for a couple of days at the hospital for further observation.

In 2012, Vidal also experienced chest pains and was confined in the same hospital. He is also suffering from a heart ailment.

The 82-year-old retired as archbishop of Cebu in 2011 and was replaced by Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma. – Rappler.com
