'This is to maintain the reservoir elevation to a more manageable level and provide additional storage capacity,' Napocor says

MANILA, Philippines – The flood forecasting division of the National Power Corporation (Napocor) on Sunday, November 10, issued an advisory for a scheduled spilling operation at the Angat Dam in Bulacan at 1 pm on the same day.

“This is to maintain the reservoir elevation to a more manageable level and provide additional storage capacity should another weather disturbance affect the basin,” the advisory said.

Angat Dam will be opened 1 meter-wide to allow water with an equivalent ouflow of 130 cm/s to be released. The volume of the release will not cause the Angat River to overflow, but Napocor’s Flood Forecasting and Warning System Division advised residents residing near the affected areas to be on alert.

Residents of the following Bulacan towns should take the necessary safety precautions:

  • Norzagaray
  • Angat
  • San Rafael
  • Bustos
  • Baliwag
  • Plaridel
  • Pulilan
  • Calumpit
  • Paombong
  • Hagonoy

Regular updates on spilling operations at the Angat Dam can be found at Napocors’ official Facebook page. – Rappler.com
