MANILA, Philippines (Updated) – Former Bataan 1st district Representative Antonino “Tony” Roman died Wednesday morning, January 8, due to multiple organ failure, the House of Representatives press relations office said in a statement. He was 74. 

The former lawmaker’s wake will be held at the Mt Carmel Church in New Manila, Quezon City. His remains will then be brought to Bataan on Saturday. 

After serving 3 consecutive terms in the 11th to 13th Congress, from 1998 to 2007, Roman was appointed by President Benigno Aquino III as the head of the Presidential Legislative Liaison Office (PLLO) from 2010 to 2012, preceding current PLLO Secretary Manuel Mamba. 

As a member of Congress, Roman served as the chairman of the House committee on veterans affairs and welfare, and the vice chairman of the special committee on bases conversion, as well as the committee on natural resources. 

During the Marcos administration, Roman was an assemblyman and later a deputy minister of finance.

He is survived by his wife, incumbent Representative Herminia Roman, and their children Renato Marcelino, Geraldine, Antonino III, and Regina. – Rappler.com
