MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – Former Camarines Sur Gov Luis Raymond “LRay” Villafuerte posted bail Thursday, February 13, after the Sandiganbayan issued an arrest warrant for him over a graft case.

Villafuerte posted a P90,000 bond with the court’s Fifth Division, in connection with a graft case linked to an anomalous P20-million fuel transaction in Camarines Sur.

Sources in the Sandiganbayan said the court on Thursday, February 13, sought the assistance of the National Bureau of Investigation in issuing the warrant against the governor.

However, the court is still pursuing the arrest of businessman Jeffrey Lo, co-accused in the case. Lo is the owner of Naga Fuel Express Zone.

The alleged fraudulent transaction involved three separate deals to purchase fuel, done between January and April 2010.

The Office of the Ombudsman found probable cause for the indictment, saying the transactions were done without the required public bidding.

Villafuerte was Camarines Sur governor from 2004 to 2013. He unsuccessfully ran for representative in the province’s 2nd district, beaten by Rep Dato Arroyo, in the 2013 elections.

His son, Miguel, is currently the province’s governor. The younger Villafuerte got the seat after beating grandfather Luis Villafuerte. – Rappler.com
