Aquino’s Easter message: Continue on the right path
The President likens Christs' life to the Philippines' development from a struggling economy to one of the promising in the region

MANILA, Philippines –  Like Jesus Christ who went through hardship and suffering for the love of mankind, Filipinos should continue to work hard for the sake of the country.

This was President Benigno Aquino’s message to Filipinos on Easter Sunday, April 20, when Catholics celebrate the resurrection of Christ 3 days after his death on the cross.

Aquino urged Filipinos to follow Christ’s example and make sacrifices for the greater good of the country.

He also likened Christ’s life to the Philippines’ development from a struggling economy riddled by corruption and poverty to one of the promising countries poised for growth.

“Like the path Jesus Christ chose to undertake, our country rose again from the plague of corruption and poverty. Our citizens’ trust in the government has been restored. Justice spares no one, even the rich or the powerful,” he said.

Aquino cited the accomplishments of his administration, from the Philippines’ better-than-expected economic growth, to social programs like the conditional cash transfer program, better education infrastructure, and health and housing services.

The President also highlighted one of his administration’s top feats: the historic signing of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro, which aims to end decades of armed conflict in the Southern Philippines and boost economic growth in Mindanao.

Aquino thanked all those who believed in his administration and worked to achieve these goals.

“We thank those who believed, and those who continue to believe, as well as those who doubted at first and are now contributing to our agenda,” Aquino said.

The President closed his message by urging Filipinos to continue working together to achieve greater things in the years to come. He promised to institute more reforms, hold corrupt people accountable, and uplift the lives of Filipinos in the remaining years of his term.

“It is our responsibility to continue the good that we have started, and to make permanent the transformation of our society,” he said.
