Canadian found dead in Olongapo resort

OLONGAPO CITY, Philippines – Police are investigating the death of a 72-year-old Canadian national who was found dead in his room at diving resort here on Maundy Thursday, April 17.

Olongapo policemen identified the fatality as Eugene Edward McCarron who was found “lying lifeless on his bed” in Arizona Beach Resort at about 4 pm on Thursday.

Police Officer 2 Larry Arabe said according to the resort manager, the victim was last seen at 9:30 pm Wednesday at the resort and was scheduled to meet with someone at 12 noon that day.

Resort employees used a duplicate key to forcibly enter McCarron’s hotel room when the latter did not answer repeated phone calls from the front desk. Volunteers from a nearby Red Cross booth tried to revive the victim, the police report said.

McCarron checked into the resort on Tuesday. 

Arabe said that while the victim was initially reported to have died from natural causes, police investigators are not discounting the possibility of foul play since the autopsy report has yet to be released.

Arabe said the victim’s valuables were intact when they responded to the scene.

Arizona Beach Resort is an Australian-owned beach hotel and diving resort frequented by foreigners, mostly retirees. – Rappler.com
