PNP chief Director General Alan Purisima himself went to Mindanao on Wednesday, May 28, to lead the awarding rites at the Camp Quintin Merecido in Davao City.

On May 20, over 100 suspected members of the NPA attacked the police station of the town of President Roxas in Cotabato. 

A close quarter firefight ensued, resulting in the death of 5 alleged NPA members and an undetermined number of wounded. “[The NPA members] underestimated the readiness and dedication to duty of the outnumbered government forces,” said Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas in a previous statement.
