MANILA, Philippines – President Benigno Aquino III has named 3 new associate justices of the Court of Appeals, deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said Saturday, May 26.

The new appointees include Justices Maria Luisa Quijano Padilla, Renato C. Francisco, and Jhosep Y. Lopez – replacing Rodrigo Lim Jr, Mario Guariña III, and Estrella Perlas-Bernabe.

Since 1999, Padilla has served as judge at the Quezon City Regional Trial Court (RTC). She is also president of the Quezon City Regional Trial Judges Association.

Padilla began as legal officer III of the Bureau of Employment Services from 1975 to 1979, then moved to become legal department chief of the Philippine Fisheries Development Authority.

From 1983 to 1999, she served as Metropolitan Trial Court judge of Mandaluyong City.

Meanwhile, Francisco has served as RTC judge in Malolos, Bulacan since 1996. Before this, he worked as assistant provincial prosecutor in Rizal, then as assistant city prosecutor in Makati City.
