MANILA, Philippines – The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Wednesday, July 23, reported the latest figures on the trail of destruction left by Typhoon Glenda – 98 deaths and over P10.46 billion ($241.6 million*) in damages to agriculture and infrastructure.

NDRRMC Executive Director Alexander Pama said that as of 6 am of Wednesday, July 23, the typhoon death toll is now at 98 from the previous 97, there are 630 injured, and 5 who remain missing.

The latest damage tally is  P10,460,846,495.33 – P1,514,432,958.95 ($34.9 million) for infrastructure and P8,946,413,536.38 ($206.6 million).

Fisheries suffered the biggest damage, accounting for over P5.5 billion ($127 million) of the total damage to agriculture, followed by crops (rice, corn, high value cash crops) at over P3 billion ($69.29 million), and agriculture facilities, P373 million ($8.6 million).

The typhoon inflicted P28 million ($646,725) damages on school facilities in Regions 3 and 4-B.

Based on the latest report, there are 330,433 families or 1,600,298 persons affected in Regions 1, 3, 4-A, 4-B, 8 and the National Capital Region. Out of the total affected, 97,055 families or 515,764 people are in 1,264 evacuation centers.

Pama said P16,178,184.83 ($373,708) worth of relief goods and medicine had been provided to affected families, drawn from the combined resources of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), local government units, and non-governmental organizations and others.

Citing a report of the Manila Electric Company (Meralco), the NDRRMC said areas with 100% restored power as of 6 pm July 22 are Aurora, Bulacan, Pampanga, Metro Manila, and Nueva Ecija.

Areas with partially restored power are Batangas (84%), Cavite (96%), Laguna (85%), Rizal (99%), and Quezon (62%).
