FEU classes suspended over ‘bomb threat’

MANILA, Philippines (2nd UPDATE) – Classes were suspended at the Far Eastern University (FEU) in Manila and the FEU Institute of Technology (FEU Tech) before 11:30 am on Thursday, July 31, due to a “suspected” bomb threat.

DZMM reported that students were seen streaming out of the FEU gate in Morayta Street and, when asked, said that school’s public address system announced that classes had been suspended and that students had to leave the campus immediately. 

“May bomb threat daw. Natakot kami (There’s supposedly a bomb threat. We got scared),” said one of the students interviewed, though clarified that the possible cause of the class suspension was not announced over the school’s PA system.

The FEU administration later issued a statement in its Facebook page confirming the receipt of the bomb threat, and that they are “working closely with security personnel” to verify the threat.

“The University officials of FEU Manila and FEU Tech have decided to call off classes today (July 31, 2014) due to a suspected bomb threat. The university is working closely with Security Personnel to address the situation and secure the campus. Please vacate the premises immediately in an orderly fashion,” FEU said.

Members of the Manila Police District bomb squad arrived in the campus, while other policemen tried to ease the traffic build-up in Morayta, caused by the sudden volume of students on the street.

The entire campus was supposed to have been vacated before noontime. 

The university received also suspended classes and office work on November 5, 2010 over another suspected bomb threat. – Rappler.com
