MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – All passengers of the motorized boat that capsized off the coast of Cebu on Friday, September 19, have already been rescued.

As of 4 am Saturday, September 20, a total of 53 passengers of MV Cruiser Sam and Shorty were rescued by the Philippine Navy, Lieutenant Commander Marineth Domingo said. 

The passengers include 32 male adults, 14 female adults, 4 male children and 3 female children. 

“They were immediately transported to Pier 1, Mandaue City, Cebu and was subsequently turned over to Philippine Coast Guard Central for proper documentation as of 5 o’clock this morning,” said Domingo, director of the Navy Public Affairs Office.

MV Cruiser Sam and Shorty reportedly came from Pasil Wharf in Cebu City and was on its way to Clarin in nearby Bohol province when the boat run aground at the vicinity Lauis Ledge, Talisay City, Cebu.

The Naval Forces Central headquarters deployed two rubber boats at 3:30 pm Friday afternoon, to conduct search and rescue operations. Navy vessels VU 471, BRP Subanon, and AT 291 followed. 

Domingo said that according to passengers, the rough seas caused the boat to tilt and list. Water entered the boat, and it capsized soon after.
