MANILA, Philippines (3rd UPDATE) – Twin explosions rocked Zamboanga City on Sunday evening, November 9, hurting one bomb squad member.

The blasts occurred at the Deluxe Massage Videoke Bar along Tomas Claudio Street in Zamboanga City past 7pm Sunday, police said. 

The first explosion occured inside the establishment, according to initial police reports.

A 2nd explosion occurred when the bomb disposal team responded, injuring one of their members. Authorities identified the victim as PO2 Franklin Manuel Ined.

Radio reports said the victim has been rushed to Brent Hospital.


Police have yet to determine whether an improvised explosive device caused the blasts. A post-blast investigation is currently ongoing.

The explosives were reportedly placed inside a trash bin. 

Authorities assured residents, as well as participants in the Boy Scouts National Jamboree currently being held in Zamboanga City, that the situation is under control.
