Metro Manila malls change operating hours for holiday season
From November 28 to January 3, malls in the National Capital Region will be open from 11 am to 11 pm

MANILA, Philippines – Metro Manila mall owners have agreed to change their operating hours to help ease heavy holiday road traffic.

From November 28 to January 3, malls in the National Capital Region will be open from 11 am to 11 pm, following an agreeement between mall operators and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Friday, November 21.

“One hundred percent agreement, all malls,” MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino told Rappler in a text message.

A different schedule will be followed on Christmas and New Year’s Day, as well as Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. On December 25 and January 1, malls will be open from 12 noon to 8 pm, and from 12 noon to 7 pm on December 24 and 31.

Ten additional traffic constables would be deployed, while the Philippine National Police would  assign some of its members to assist security personnel in malls, the MMDA said.

Tolentino earlier announced the MMDA’s plan to ask mall operators to change their operating schedule in order to reduce vehicle volume as the holiday season nears.
