Identities of the abductors are still unknown
MANILA, Philippines - The action in the Corona Trial picked up on Monday, May 7, after a month-long break. Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile wants the trial to be done and over with by the last week of May, while Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago wants to wrap up by June 7.
Meanwhile, the defense panel has asked Senator Edgardo Angara to inhibit from the trial, citing his son Congressman "Sonny" Angara and recently-funded government projects in the Angaras' home province of Quirino as reasons for him to inhibit.
Also on Monday, the prosecution continued the cross-examination of a defense witness and presented two copies of a check that was allegedly issued to buy the Basa-Guidote Enterprises Inc (BGEI) lot in Sampaloc Manila. Enrile has also since obtained "transaction records" of Chief Justice Renato Corona’s foreign and peso currency accounts. Senator Ping Lacson, meanwhile, wants Corona himself to take the witness stand.
