Quezon City judge is new Court of Appeals Associate Justice
Judge Germano Francisco Legaspi is set to fill the post vacated by retired CA associate justice Amelita Tolentino

MANILA, Philippines – President Benigno Aquino III has appointed Quezon City Judge Germano Francisco Legaspi as the new Associate Justice of the Court of Appeals, the Supreme Court announced Monday, January 12.

He will take over the post vacated by retired Court tof Appeals Associate Justice Amelita Tolentino.

As presiding justice of the QC Regional Trial Court Branch 77, Legaspi once denied the appeal of Marlene Aguilar-Pollard, mother of road rage murder suspect Jason Ivler, to junk the obstruction charges filed against her, and dismissed the petition of a leftist group to allow them hold a rally near the House of Representatives during the 2013 State of the Nation Address.

Legaspi bested 5 other nominees for the post: Cagayan de Oro City Branch 41 Judge Jeoffre Acebedo, Makati RTC Branch 134 Judge Perpetua Atal-Paño, Manila RTC Branch 12 Judge Ruben Reynaldo de Guzman, Marikina RTC Branch 192 Judge Geraldine Fiel-Macaraig and  Antipolo RTC Branch 73 Judge Ronaldo Martin.

Under the Constitution, the JBC is tasked to vet and recommend to the President nominees for vacancies in the Supreme Court and lower courts, as well as the Office of the Ombudsman. – Rappler.com
