CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines – A magnitude 5.6 quake jolted the province of Tawi-Tawi on Tuesday morning, January 20, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said. 

 

Phivolcs posted that the earthquake struck 16 kilometers southwest of the island of Simunul at around 1:19 am on Tuesday.

 

The earthquake, which was tectonic in origin, had a depth of 35 kilometers.

 

Intensity 4 was felt in Simunul, Bongao and Panglima Sugala in Tawi-Tawi, and in Siasi, Sulu. 

 

Intensity 3 was felt in Languyan, Tawi-Tawi, and in Maimbung, Sulu. 

 

No casualties or damages were reported but aftershocks are expected, Phivolcs said. 

 

At 11 am, a magnitude 5 earthquake struck off Davao Oriental but no casualties or damages were reported. – Rappler.com
