Final: SC upholds PMA verdict dismissing Cudia
This leaves the honor student no more recourse

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines – The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday, April 14, denied with finality the appeal of dismissed Philippine Military Academy cadet Jeff Aldrin Cudia.

“The Court has denied petitioner Cudia’s Motion for Reconsideration as well as petitioner-intervenor’s Motion for Reconsideration with Motion to Submit Case for Oral Argument,” Supreme Court spokesperson Theodore Te announced early afternoon Tuesday after the court held its regular en banc session.

“The Court had previously ruled in its February 24, 2015, session against petitioner Cudia, upholding the action of the Philippine Military Academy in dismissing petitioner from the Philippines Military Academy,” he added.

In its February ruling, the SC affirmed Cudia’s dismissal for violating the school’s honor code, which binds the cadets to the following principle: “We, the cadets, do not lie, cheat, steal, nor tolerate among us those who do so.” The honor system is managed by the cadets themselves.

In 2014, the year Cudia was supposed to graduate with honors, the PMA honor committee dismissed him for lying about his explanation for his tardiness in class, an act that the committee of cadets said violated the honor code. (READ: Did Cadet Cudia lie?)

The High Court said then that the military institution’s honor code should be respected, Rappler learned.

In March, Cudia filed his appeal and vowed to fight to the end.

While waiting for the SC’s verdict in February, Cudia took the entrance exam to the University of the Philippines College of Law and passed Rappler.com
