MANILA, Philippines – The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) suspended 15 units of the DLTB bus company over an accident that killed 5 people in Eastern Samar.
On April 12, a DLTB bus with plate number ADA-1566 collided with a van along the national highway in Barangay Bagte, Quinapondan, Eastern Samar.
Five passengers of the van were killed, while several bus passengers were injured.
In an order dated Thursday, April 16, the LTFRB noted that the bus involved in the accident was operating outside its authorized route, which covers San Pablo City, Laguna-Pasay City via Alaminos.
The 30-day preventive suspension covers 15 DLTB buses plying the Laguna-Pasay City route.
LTFRB chairman Winston Ginez ordered the bus company to explain why it should not face a P1-million fine and the revocation of its franchise.
The bus operator is also directed to submit its buses to the LTFRB and Land Transportation Office (LTO) for road worthiness tests, and to conduct road safety seminars and compulsory drug testing for its drivers and conductors.
DLTB bus company has been ordered to surrender the plates of the 15 suspended buses on April 20.
The hearing of the case has been set on Wednesday, April 22. – Rappler.com
