Cebu City senior citizens to get P2,000 aid

CEBU CITY, Philippines – Despite criticisms that he could be doing this to win support for the 2016 elections, Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama will push through with the distribution of P2,000 each to senior citizens on Friday, April 24.

This is the second time the city government is releasing financial aid to seniors this year. The first distribution, giving P1,000 each to the elderly, was done on January 28.

Senior citizens who are residents of the city – there are at least 60,000 of them – each has a P12,000 annual financial aid to look forward to. Cebu City has an annual budget of P115 million for cash assistance for senior citizens.

On Friday, the 80 barangay centers are expected to be crowded, so the city government urges senior citizens to first check online where their names are assigned and the status of distribution in those centers.

Senior citizens or relatives who can assist them may log on to http://osca.cebucity.gov.ph/index.php/home/payrollID.html. 

Should senior citizens fail to get their cash on Friday, they have 15 days to claim it at the city hall.

In time, Rama said, the city government may provide automated teller machine cards to senior citizens to make the distribution of cash assistance easier. – Rappler.com
