MMDA to deploy 800 personnel for June 1 school opening
Traffic enforcers, laborers, and street sweepers will be deployed on June 1 to direct traffic and clear sidewalks in preparation for the opening of classes

MANILA, Philippines – The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will deploy 800 personnel on June 1 to ensure the safe and orderly opening of classes

As part of Oplan Balik-Eskwela 2015, the MMDA will be deploying a team of traffic enforcers, laborers, and street sweepers who will manage traffic and conduct sidewalk clearing operations near schools in Metro Manila.

MMDA chairman Francis Tolentino said the agency will also be coordinating with the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) for added security in school zones.

On Monday, June 1, enforcers will be deployed as early as 5:30 am to ensure the smooth flow of traffic, according to MMDA traffic discipline head Crisanto Saruca.

Saruca also said that the MMDA Metrobase will monitor the traffic situation near schools and universities on a 24-hour basis.

Constables will be deployed in traffic-prone areas around the metropolis, concentrating on the major thoroughfares EDSA, Ortigas Avenue, C-5 Road, Meralco Avenue and Marcos Highway; the University Belt in Manila; and Katipunan Avenue and C.P. Garcia Avenue in Quezon City.

Meanwhile, other MMDA personnel will be tasked to remove illegal vendors from footbridges and sidewalks.
