APEC 2015 preps: New LED street lamps along Roxas Blvd
As part of its beautification project for Roxas Boulevard, the public works department will install new LED street lamps to replace the old multicolored lamps

MANILA, Philippines – The old multicolored street lamps in Roxas Boulevard in Manila will soon be replaced with new ones as part of the Philippines’ beautification project ahead of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit that it will host later this year.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said it will coordinate with the Manila city government for the installation of new LED lights along the stretch of the boulevard.

The agency plans to have the new lights installed by July or August, DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson said.

“We want the removal of different lights there,” he said.

“On every corner, there is a different lamppost, then it has different pedestal. If you look at it, it’s ugly,” Singson added, citing the lampposts lining the boulevard and around the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

The funds for the makeover of Roxas Boulevard will come from the Motor Vehicle User’s Charge, the DPWH chief said.

With only 5 months to go before the APEC Summit in November, the government is undertaking various projects to prepare the metro for the arrival of prominent heads of states attending the event.

This includes the “greening” of national roads, repair of the main thoroughfare EDSA, and clearing its sidewalks of obstructions, among others. – Rappler.com
