Tax chief Henares shows off her gun

MANILA, Philippines – Tax evaders, beware. Bureau of Internal Reveneu (BIR) Commissioner Kim Henares is a sharp-shooter, literally.

In the pages of Sunday Inquirer Magazine’s August 5 issue, Henares was photographed not with her piles of documents but with her guns. One, particularly the photo below, shows her shooting a target some 20 feet away using her .40 caliber STI pistol.



In that particular shot, the magazine explained that Henares hit the target “in the center mass” of human-shaped cutout with just one bullet.

Just like her boss, President Benigno Aquino III, who is into shooting, Henares herself has become an enthusiast of the sport. She occasionally joins the president in the firing range on weekends.

This hobby can actually provide her enough protection. After all, she has been running after big and influential names in the pursuit of conducting her duty well.

As part of the Aquino government’s name-and-shame campaign against tax evaders and other wrongdoers, she has slapped charges against boxing champ Manny Pacquiao, a Manila City contractor and property owners in Puerto Galera, Mindoro for not paying their taxes well.

She even took the witness stand during the Corona trial, where she testified that Corona did not file income tax returns from 2002 to 2010. She also testified that Corona’s wife acquired an P11-million property in the gated La Vista village in 2003 despite having no reported source of income.
