Bet for councilor shot dead

MANILA, Philippines - A candidate for councilor in San Fernando City, La Union was shot dead by motorcycle-riding gunman shortly before 8 pm Sunday, February 24, according to the police.

The victim was identified as Danilo Nisperos, 59, a resident of Purok 7, Barangay Bangcusay, San Fernando City. Recovered from the crime scene were 5 spent shells and 5 slugs from a still undetermined firearm.

Supt Jovencio Badua, spokesman of Ilocos police, said Nisperos was rushed to the Bethany Hospital but died while undergoing treatment.

The killing comes a day after a mayoral bet in Marcos, Ilocos Norte was shot dead.

Records from the Philippine National Police (PNP) showed that from January 13 to February 17 this year, a total of 11 people have been killed in 23 election-related violent incidents. - Rappler.com
