Loren last to arrive, won’t kiss Alan

MANILA, Philippines – She was the last to arrive, raising speculations she would skip the miting de advance of Team PNoy at the Amoranto Stadium in Quezon City on Friday, May 10.

But when she did, she told the crowd she was hurt yet ready to forgive.

Survey topnotcher Sen Loren Legarda was emotional on stage when she gave her final campaign speech two days before the elections, obviously still smarting from a spat with fellow Team PNoy candidate Sen Alan Peter Cayetano.

She called for a stop to mudslinging, declaring that while she has been hurt by some sectors — without naming names — she has forgiven them and is ready to move forward. “Sana lahat ng mga kandidato ay magtulungan,” she said, her voice cracking. (I hope all candidates would help each other.)

Legarda has accused a publicist assoicated with Cayetano of being behind a media campaign to bring her down. A lawyer has accused her of failing to declare a posh New York property in her Statement of Assets, Liability and Net Worth. She slammed it as black propaganda and dropped hints pointing to Cayetano as the brains behind the campaign against her.

Both candidates are aspiring to top the 2013 senatorial race. Campaign insiders said Cayetano’s media handler was the former PR of Legarda – a point of tension between both camps.

When she arrived in Amoranto, the candidates stood up, but campaign manager Sen Franklin M. Drilon had to tap Cayetano, who was chatting with former senator Jamby Madrigal, to make him stand.

Legarda then kissed most Team PNoy candidates on the cheek, and exchanged a few words with others. Cayetano got a quick handshake.

Interviewed before the program began, Drilon told reporters he had spoken with both, and that they promised him they would continue to support the entire administration slate.
