LP GOES SHOWBIZ: Actor Aga Muhlach is the newest member of President Aquino's Liberal Party

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) – Movie and television actor Aga Muhlach is the newest member of President Aquino’s Liberal Party (LP). He was sworn in by LP President Manuel “Mar” Roxas II on Friday, August 3 at the LP national headquarters in Cubao, Quezon City.

Muhlach said he wants to represent the 4th District of Camarines Sur province in Bicol. He and wife, Charlene, registered as voters there in March.

It’s going to be a tough battle for Muhlach, who will face the powerful Fuentebella political clan. The congressinal seat is currently held by Rep. Arnulfo Fuentebella. On his third and last term, his son Felix William “Wimpy” Fuentebella will reportedly try to take his place.

Muhlach said he is ready to face them. “Malaki lang naman sila because of the number of years that they have served. Pero pagdating naman sa gawa, I think peple will decide. I’m backing on that. Gagawin ko makakaya ko and offer my services to Camarines Sur,” he told reporters after the oath-taking ceremonies.

The Fuentebellas had ruled over Camarines Sur for about a century.

Muhlach joined about 70 “top local government officials” on Friday.  Among them were Gov Emmylou Mendoza of North Cotabato, Gov Junie Cua of Quirino, Gov Aurelio Umali of Nueva Ecija, and Rep. Dax Cua of Quirino Lone District.

Sixteen board members, 14 municipal mayors, 3 vice mayors and a number of community leaders from the provinces of North Cotabato, Southern Leyte, Quirino, Ilocos Sur, Sorsogon, and Bataan, also took their oath as new LP members.

Aside from Roxas, the oath-taking ceremonies were attended by LP stalwarts DILG Sec Jesse Robredo, Oriental Mindoro Gov. Alfonso “Boy” Umali, Deputy Speaker Lorenzo “Erin” Tañada III, Customs commissioner Rozzano “Ruffy” Biazon, Marikina Rep. Romero “Miro” Quimbo, Quezon Rep. Irvin Alcala, and Cebu Rep Luigi Quisumbing among others.

With its latest recruits, LP now has 37 governors and 88 members in the House of Representatives. – Rappler.com
