PCOO-MALANANG

The Standard Poll conducted by Laylo Research Strategies shows that of the 14 probable winners in the Senate race, 5 are from the ruling LP, while 3 others are guest candidates of the ruling Daang Matuwid coalition

MANILA, Philippines – Candidates of the ruling coalition dominate the winners’ circle in the Senate race, according to the The Standard Poll conducted by Laylo Research Strategies from February 24 to March 1, 2016.

In the nationwide survey of 3,000 voters, 5 bets from the Liberal Party (LP) were among the probable winners:

SENATORIAL CANDIDATE RANK
Francis Pangilinan 2-3
Ralph Recto 2-3
Frank Drilon 7-8
Leila de Lima 11-14
Teofisto Guingona III 11-14

Of these 5 aspirants, 3 are re-electionists: Recto, Drilon, and Guingona. Pangilinan was a former senator and the former food security czar, while De Lima – a former justice secretary – will be entering the Senate race for the first time.

Three other Senate aspirants within the poll’s winning circle are guest candidates of the ruling “Daang Matuwid” coalition: former PhilHealth director and former Akbayan Representative Risa Hontiveros (8th), former senator Panfilo Lacson (7th to 8th), and former Technical Education Skills and Development Authority chief Joel Villanueva (7th to 8th). Many of the candidates in the Laylo poll are shared candidates of the Daang Matuwid coalition, the opposition United Nationalist Alliance (UNA), the Grace Poe-Francis Escudero tandem, and the Miriam Santiago-Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr tandem.

Recto, for instance, is allied with the LP, but is a guest candidate of Poe’s Puso at Galing ng Pilipino (PGP) team and the senatorial lineup of Santiago and Marcos. Villanueva is also running under both the administration banner and Santiago’s slate.

Survey frontrunner Senator Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, a member of the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC), is Poe’s senatorial bet. He is also a guest candidate of Vice President Jejomar Binay’s UNA.

Meanwhile, Sotto’s fellow NPC member, Valenzuela Representative Sherwin Gatchalian (Rank 9), is an exclusive candidate of the Poe ticket.

The 3 independent candidates in the survey are also shared bets: Lacson, who is running under the LP and UNA slates; and former senators Richard “Dick” Gordon (11th to 14th) and Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri (5th), who are guest candidates of both the Poe and Binay slates.

Leyte Representative Martin Romualdez, president of the Lakas-CMD party of former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, is a guest candidate of the Binay, Poe, and Santiago Senate slates. He currently ranks 10th in the Laylo survey.

The lone UNA candidate in the Laylo survey’s winning circle, Sarangani Representative and boxing icon Manny Pacquiao (11th to 14th), is also included in Santiago’s senatorial lineup.

Meanwhile, in the presidential race, the Laylo poll showed that Poe, Binay, and Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte are statistically tied for first place. – Rappler.com
