Another suspension? Cebu City mayor says it’s ‘highly condemnable’
This is Rama's second suspension in 4 months – during the campaign period at that, when suspending officials is prohibited

CEBU CITY, Philippines – The camp of Cebu City Mayor Mike Rama said Sunday, April 10, that it will file a motion for reconsideration over the “new suspension order” reportedly issued against him and other city officials by Malacañang.

In an interview Sunday, Rama said he had not yet received a copy of the suspension order issued by the Office of the President over the release of calamity aid to city government employees who were “not victims” of the 7.2 magnitude earthquake and Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) that hit Cebu in 2013.

Some employees of the city government received P20,000 each as calamity aid after the earthquake and Yolanda in 2013.

UNA vs LP

Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella and 12 city councilors are suspended along with Rama.

But Rama said he had done nothing wrong, adding that the suspension is “highly condemnable.”

“I am being hit twice by the present administration because I am UNA (United Nationalist Alliance) and they are the Liberal Party,” he said.

UNA is the party of Vice President Jejomar Binay, while the LP is led by President Benigno Aquino III.

The mayor hit Malacañang, saying there are other suspension orders against members of LP and these have not been implemented.

“This election is bloody. This election is a war,” said Rama, who is again running for Cebu City mayor. – Rappler.com
