MANILA, Philippines (3rd UPDATE) – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Friday, April 29, announced that the second suspected hacker of its website has been arrested.

Comelec Chairman Andres Bautista confirmed that the second suspected hacker is now in the custody of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).

Ronald Aguto Jr, chief of the NBI cybercrime division, said in an interview on ANC that the NBI believes “he is one of the persons who leaked” sensitive data from the Comelec website.

Aguto also said the second suspect admitted owning the name “LulzSec Pilipinas.”

LulzSec Pilipinas is the name of the group that posted the Comelec’s database online shortly after the Comelec website was defaced on March 27.

The second suspect has been identified in media reports as Jonel de Asis, 23.

3rd suspect at large

The arrest of the second suspect comes more than a week after the NBI nabbed a 23-year-old fresh graduate for hacking the Comelec website.

The first suspect, Paul Biteng, who holds a degree in information technology, admitted to committing the crime.

Aguto said Biteng and De Asis “don’t know each other personally” and just knew each other “through social media.”

He said the NBI is looking for a third suspected hacker.

At the same time, Aguto added, the NBI is going after those who downloaded files from the leaked information to use these for illegal means.
