Padaca cries for Keh, angry with how he was treated

MANILA, Philippines – “It is hard to fight for the truth.”

Former Isabela Gov Grace Padaca laments the way Kaya Natin lead convenor Harvey Keh was treated in the impeachment trial on Wednesday, May 16.

In an interview after Keh’s testimony, Padaca could not help but break down in tears. She said she was angry with how senator-judges berated Keh for accepting and submitting to the Senate Corona’s alleged bank records even if he could not attest to their veracity.

Asked why she was crying, Padaca said, “Galit. Parang galit na galit sila sa anonymous. We have a country where ang justice, hindi ka makakalaban nang harapan. Ikaw na nga ang merong gustong ipaglaban, ikaw pa ang masama so what kind of a country do we have?” (Anger. It seems they are so angry with anonymous [sources]. We have a country where you can’t fight for justice face to face. You want to fight for truth but you get into trouble so what kind of a country do we have?)

Padaca and former Pampanga Gov Ed Panlilio accompanied Keh as he testified before the Senate. The two are co-founders of Kaya Natin. Kaya Natin is a movement for good governance and ethical leadership. Watch Padaca’s interview here: 

‘Senators have no decency’ 

Padaca and Panlilio took exception to the senator-judges’ behavior. 

Panlilio reacted to the statement of Sen Jinggoy Estrada that Keh was lying when he denied that he was after publicity. He also questioned why Sen Miriam Defensor Santiago raised her voice and did not allow Keh to finish answering her questions. 

“Parang masyadong naging kulang sa decency yung (It’s as if there was a lack of decency) he didn’t present himself as a witness. He was subpoenaed and as a person who was subpoenaed although he was considered as a hostile witness...Is this the kind of decent questioning that we expect from the senators?”
