Lawyer Judd Roy denies withdrawing from the defense team of Chief Justice Renato Corona

MANILA, Philippines – Are lawyers Jose “Judd” Roy III and Karen Jimeno leaving the defense team of Chief Justice Renato Corona?

No, according to the defense counsels. Yes, said another lawyer who claimed otherwise.

When asked about such speculation going around on social media on Sunday, May 20, defense’s Roy denied them.

“False.” That was his short text reply.

Earlier, lawyer Harry Roque posted on his Facebook and Twitter accounts that the defense team is “sinking.”

A few minutes later, Jimeno, via Twitter,  countered Roque’s claim that she went “missing.

He said, he said

When asked about his social media posts, Roque forwarded a text message that he said came from the Ronny Roy, the dad of Judd.

The text message reportedly said, “Judd is fed up. He never wanted [Ombudsman Conchita] Morales to testify, at least he wud’ve wanted her LAST after Risa [Hontiveros], [Harvey Keh], etc.but was overruled by [defense team lead counsel Serafin] Cuevas.”

Hontiveros and Keh took the witness stand at Corona’s impeachment trial last week. They filed the complaint that triggered the Ombudsman to investigate Corona’s accounts that eventually led to the discovery of several dollar transactions.

This Tuesday, May 22, Corona’s lawyers said the Supreme Court magistrate will take the witness stand to explain the dollar-denominated transactions unearthed by the Ombudsman.

The text message of Roy’s father continued: “Then, Corona insists on testifying WITHOUT any rehearsal. Jue is so fed up he plans to withdraw his apperance (sic) tomorrow.”

“He’s blaming Corona and Cuevas,” the text message read.

The younger Roy had once publicly referred to Cuevas as “like a father” to the defense team. – Rappler.com, with report from Natashya Gutierrez
