MANILA, Philippines – The United States on Tuesday, August 7, pledged to donate US$100,000 to the Philippines to support disaster relief efforts in Metro Manila following severe flooding brought about by non-stop rain, according to state-owned Philippine News Agency (PNA).

Nine areas in Luzon have been placed under state of calamity because of severe flooding: Laguna, Cainta and San Mateo cities in Rizal in Calabarzon; Malabon City, Muntinlupa City, and Valenzuela City in Metro Manila; Bataan, Pampanga, and Zambales in Central Luzon.
Rescue and rehabilitation efforts are expected to resume Wednesday. But the weather bureau Pagasa said it expects rain to continue throughout the day.
The Philippine government had released almost P13 million in relief aid to flooded areas across 11 regions.
