Kabayan intensifies into tropical storm

MANILA, Philippines – State weather agency PAGASA upgraded Kabayan into a tropical storm. It is expected to make landfall in Aurora, anywhere between 2 and 4 am on October 2. 

According to Weather Philippines, residents and local government units across central and southern Luzon should expect heavy rainfall.

As of 10 pm on October 1, Kabayan was spotted 170 km northeast of Daet Camarines Norte and 85 km east southeast of Baler, Aurora. The tropical storm is packing winds of 65 k/ph with a gustiness of up to 80 kp/h. PAGASA is discouraging sea travel over the eastern seaboard of northern and central Luzon and the eastern seaboard of Quezon, including Polilio Island.



The following areas are under Storm Signal No 1:

• Isabela
• Ifugao
• Mountain Province
• Kalinga
• Abra
• Ilocos Sur
• Zambales
• Pampanga
• Bataan
• Bulacan
• Rizal
• Quezon
• Camarines Norte
• Metro Manila

This storm signal means that these areas will experience winds that could slightly damage houses made of light materials. Such winds may be felt within the next 36 hours.

Public Storm Signal No 2 is issued over the following provinces:

• Aurora
• Northern Quezon
• Polillo Island
• Quirino
• Nueva Vizcaya
• Benguet, La Union
• Pangasinan
• Tarlac
• Nueva Ecija

This storm signal could cause damage to high and medium risk structures, and could also damage some agriculture in affected areas. PAGASA advises the public and the disaster risk reduction and management council to take necessary preparations.

Kabayan is expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Saturday afternoon, October 3. The next bulletin will be released at 5 am. – Rappler.com
