MANILA, Philippines – State weather bureau PAGASA is monitoring a low pressure area (LPA) outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

In its bulletin issued 5 pm on Monday, July 11, PAGASA said the LPA is 1,190 kilometers east of the bureau’s radar in Bato, Catanduanes.

PAGASA told Rappler that the LPA could enter PAR on Monday or on Tuesday, July 12, and it only has a slim chance of strengthening into a tropical depression.

It’s still too early to tell how the LPA would affect the country or the southwest monsoon.

The southwest monsoon, meanwhile, is still being felt in the western part of Luzon.

On Tuesday, monsoon rains are expected in the Ilocos Region and the Cordillera Administrative Region, as well as the provinces of Zambales and Bataan.

There will also be occasional rains in Cagayan Valley and the rest of Central Luzon, while light to moderate rains and thunderstorms will persist in the rest of Luzon, including Metro Manila.

The Visayas and Mindanao, in contrast, will have better weather, with just isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.
