MANILA, Philippines – The northeast monsoon, or the “Amihan” wind, has started breezing through northern Luzon, state weather bureau PAGASA said Thursday, October 18.

This marks the start of the cool temperatures that is usually felt as the Christmas season nears, PAGASA weather forecaster Aldczar Aurelio told Rappler.

The bureau earlier forecast that the Amihan will arrive by this month. 

Tropical storm Nina (Prapiroon) has already exited the Philippine Area of Responsibiliy, and no major weather disturbance is in the PAR, the bureau said.

With the northeast monsoon, Ilocos region, Cagayan Valley, and the Cordillera Administrative Region are forecast to experience occasional light rain, the bureau said in its 5 am public weather forecast.

The rest of the country, meanwhile, will have partly cloudy skies with brief rainshowers or thunderstorms.

Winds will be coming from the northeast. It will be moderate to strong over northern and central Luzon, while it will be light to moderate over the rest of the country.
