MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – Both Palawan and Mindanao will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rain and thunderstorms on Sunday, September 11.

In its 5 pm bulletin on Saturday, September 10, state weather bureau PAGASA said the low pressure area (LPA) was last located 310 km north northwest of Puerto Princesa City.

Another LPA was also spotted 730 km east southeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.

Meanwhile, the center of Tropical Storm Meranti outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility was located at 1,580 km east of Luzon, with maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour (km/h) near the center, and gustiness of up to 80 km/h.

It is moving west northwest in direction at 20 km/h.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.

Light to moderate winds will blow from the southeast over Northern Luzon and Central Luzon, and from the southwest to southeast over the rest of the country, causing slight to moderate seas.

In a separate bulletin Saturday, independent weather monitoring group Weather Philippines said that Meranti is expected to enter PAR on Sunday, September 11, between 8 am and 2 pm. It adds that the storm is still far away to directly affect the country.

However, Weather Philippines said that Meranti “will intensify further into a typhoon” on Monday, September 12. Its Day 4 forecast, it adds, “is now showing a passage along the North Philippine Sea bringing its projected track to pass very close or over the Batanes Group of Islands on Wednesday, September 14… and hitting Taiwan thereafter.”  – Rappler.com
