MANILA, Philippines – Only Batanes and the Babuyan Group of Islands remain under warning signals as Typhoon Ferdie (Meranti) makes its way out of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
In its bulletin issued 11 am on Wednesday, September 14, state weather bureau PAGASA said Ferdie will exit PAR in 2 to 3 hours.
It was last spotted 215 kilometers northwest of Basco, Batanes, still moving west northwest at 20 kilometers per hour (km/h).
Ferdie made landfall in Itbayat, Batanes at 12:15 am on Wednesday.
It has slightly weakened, with maximum winds of up to 210 km/h and gustiness of up to 245 km/h.
Batanes, which was placed under signal number 4 at the height of the typhoon, is now under signal number 2.
The Babuyan Group of Islands, meanwhile, is under signal number 1.
Moderate to heavy rain and strong winds are still expected within Ferdie’s 600-km diameter.
Typhoon Gener
PAGASA is also monitoring Typhoon Gener (Malakas), which is 1,225 km east of Baler, Aurora. It is moving northwest – away from the Philippines – at 25 km/h.
In its 11 am bulletin, the state weather bureau said Gener maintained its strength, with maximum winds of up to 130 km/h and gustiness of up to 160 km/h.
It is not expected to make landfall but it will enhance the southwest monsoon. – Rappler.com
