MANILA, Philippines – Typhoon Lawin (Haima) left the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) at 5 pm on Thursday, October 20.

State weather bureau PAGASA said, however, that 4 areas remain under signal number 1:

  • Ilocos Norte
  • Ilocos Sur
  • La Union
  • Abra

These areas are still affected by the outer bands of Lawin, which is 260 kilometers west northwest of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte.

Lawin weakened further as it left PAR, with maximum winds of up to 130 kilometers per hour (km/h) and gustiness of up to 160 km/h.

It had made landfall in Peñablanca, Cagayan as a super typhoon at 11 pm on Wednesday, October 19, bringing intense rain and powerful winds.

Meanwhile, sea travel still remains risky in the northern and eastern seaboards of Northern Luzon and the western seaboard of Central Luzon.
