PAGASA monitoring LPA, ITCZ, tropical storm, tropical depression

MANILA, Philippines – PAGASA is monitoring several weather disturbances – a low pressure area (LPA) embedded in the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), a tropical storm outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), and a tropical depression also outside PAR.

As of 10 am on Thursday, November 3, the LPA embedded in the ITCZ was 325 kilometers east of Sorsogon City. The state weather bureau said these two systems will bring moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms to the regions of Mimaropa, Bicol, and Eastern Visayas, as well as the province of Quezon. The rain could trigger floods and landslides.

Also because of the LPA and the ITCZ, there will be light to moderate rain in Mindanao, the rest of the Visayas, and the rest of Calabarzon.

On top of that, one of the two tropical depressions outside PAR has already intensified into a tropical storm. Its international name is Meari, and it will be named Marce when it enters PAR.

So far, Meari is 1,385 kilometers east of Luzon, hardly moving. It has maximum winds of up to 65 kilometers per hour (km/h) and gustiness of up to 80 km/h.

Meanwhile, the second tropical depression maintained its strength, with maximum winds of up to 55 km/h and gustiness of up to 70 km/h. It is located 2,270 kilometers east of Luzon, moving northwest at 20 km/h.

Since both Tropical Storm Meari and the tropical depression are still outside PAR, they have no direct effect on the Philippines just yet, according to PAGASA. – Rappler.com
