Two weather systems affecting the country: a low pressure area hovering east of Eastern Visayas, and the northeast monsoon, or "Amihan," bringing cold temperatures to Luzon

MANILA, Philippines – A cloudy, rainy Sunday is in the forecast Sunday, January 27, for many parts of the country, particularly the country’s eastern seaboard.

There are currently two weather systems affecting the country: a low pressure area hovering east of Eastern Visayas, and the northeast monsoon, or “Amihan,” bringing cold temperatures to Luzon.

The LPA was spotted 410 km east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar, state weather bureau PAGASA said in its 5pm forecast released Saturday, January 26.

The bureau forecasts cloudy skies with moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms for Eastern Visayas, possibly triggering landslides and flashfloods.

Northern Mindanao, Caraga, Davao and Bicol regions will have light to moderate rain or thunderstorms, while Cagayan Valley and the provinces of Aurora and Quezon will have cloudy skies with light rain, the bureau said.

The rest of the country will have partly cloudy skies with brief, light rain, the bureau added.

Iloilo City, which is celebrating the Dinagyang festival Sunday, is forecast to have cloudy skies with rain or thunderstorms. Temperatures in the city will range between 24-30 degrees Celsius, PAGASA said.

Prevailing winds throughout the country will be coming from the northeast.

There is no major weather disturbance within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), the bureau added.
