MANILA, Philippines (4th Update) – After a bout of heavy rain across Metro Manila due to the northeast monsoon, afternoon classes were suspended in certain areas in the metro. 

A strong downpour occured at around 8 am to 11 am in Metro Manila on Friday, February 22, forcing localities and schools to send their students back home in the middle of the day. 

As of 12 noon, classes in all levels in public schools were suspended in: 

  • Metro Manila
  • Parañaque

Classes in pre-school, elementary and high school in public schools were suspended in:

  • Quezon City
  • Taytay, Rizal 
  • Pasay City
  • Caloocan City
The following universities have also suspended classes:
  • University of Santo Tomas 
  • Lyceum of the Philippines
  • St Scholatisca’s College, Manila
  • Philippine Women’s University
  • Adamson University
  • Polytechnic University of the Philippines – Sta. Mesa
  • San Beda College – Mendiola
  • Arellano University 
  • St Paul University – Quezon City (elementary and highschool)
  • Philippine College of Criminology
  • Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila
  • Philippine Women’s University
  • University of the East Manila and Caloocan (elementary and highschool)

Despite the downpour, PAGASA weather forecaster Aldzar Aurelio said no major weather disturbance like typhoons are expected within the next 3 days.
