MANILA, Philippines – Storm warning signals remain over 4 provinces in northern Luzon late morning Wednesday, July 17, as tropical storm Isang moved towards the Balintang Channel.

Isang was spotted over Calayan Island (19.3°N, 121.3°E) as of 10 am Wednesday, carrying maximum winds of 55 km/h near the center.

Ilocos Norte, Apayao, Cagayan, and Batanes remain under storm signal number 1, state weather bureau PAGASA said in its 11 am bulletin. Storm warning signals in other areas have already been lifted.

Isang will continue to enhance the southwest monsoon, bringing rain to the rest of Luzon and Western Visayas.

Moderate to heavy rainfall (5-15 mm/h) is expected within the tropical depression’s 300 km radius.

It is currently moving north northwest at a speed of 22 km/h, and is expected to be out of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Thursday morning, July 18.

The weather system is forecast to move towards Taiwan and east China, bringing more rain to the said areas ravaged by typhoon Huaning (Soulik) last week.

The next bulletin on Isang will be released at 5 pm. – Rappler.com
