MANILA, Philippines – Typhoon Glenda is expected to be out of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Thursday afternoon, July 17, state weather bureau PAGASA said.

As of 5 pm Wednesday, July 16, the typhoon is already over the West Philippine Sea moving towards Bajo de Masinloc, Zambales.

The eye of the typhoon was located 160 km west of Zambales as of 4 pm. It has maximum sustained winds of 140 km per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 170 km per hour. It is forecasted to move west northwest at 24 km per hour. 

Glenda is expected to be at 630 km west of Dagupan City or outside PAR by Thursday afternoon.

Public storm warning signals, issued at 5 pm, are as follows:

  • Batangas
  • Northern part of Occidental and Oriental Mindoro
  • Zambales
  • Tarlac
  • Pampanga
  • Bataan

  • Lubang Island
  • Pangasinan 
  • Metro Manila

Public storm signals elsewhere are now lowered.

PAGASA on Wednesday also warned of the possibility of the following:

  • Broken twigs and branches of trees 
  • Banana plants tilting or landing flat on the ground
  • Rice in flowering stage suffering significant damage 
  • Partially unroofed nipa and cogon houses 
  • Risky sea travel for small seacrafts and fishing boats
