Monsoon rains for parts of Luzon on Saturday

MANILA, Philippines – Parts of Luzon can expect rains on Saturday, August 2, state weather bureau PAGASA said.

In its 5 pm bulletin on Friday, August 1, PAGASA said Ilocos region and the provinces of Zambales and Bataan will experience monsoon rains which may trigger flashfloods and landslides. 

A southwest monsoon is affecting Luzon and Western Visayas, while a tropical storm (international codename Halong) is still outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility, with its center located at 1,610 km east of Central Luzon as of 4 pm Friday. 

The tropical storm, which is slowly moving west northwestward, has maximum sustained winds of 105 km per hour, and gustiness of up to 135 km per hour. 

Metro Manila, the rest of Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol region, and Western Visayas will have occasional rains, while the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms. 

Coastal waters will be moderate to rough as moderate to strong winds blow from the southwest over the entire archipelago.
