MANILA, Philippines (3rd UPDATE) – The day before Christmas will be rainy in many parts of the country, particularly in central and south Luzon, said state weather bureau PAGASA on Wednesday, December 24.
Due to the tail-end of a cold front, the weather bureau as of 12 pm has raised the yellow rainfall warning over Metro Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon, Bulacan, and Bataan.
Flooding is possible in low-lying areas in these places, and residents are advised to monitor the weather condition.
Meanwhile, light to moderate rains will affect Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, and Zambales, which may persist for 3 hours.
Past Christmas Eves were rainy as well, due to the effects of the northeast monsoon and nearby low pressure areas (LPA). Many parts of the country experienced rains the day before Christmas in 2013, as well as in 2012, when an approaching LPA became Tropical Storm Quinta, which killed 23 people.
In its 5 am weather forecast on Wednesday, PAGASA said that the cold front is affecting southern Luzon, while the northeast monsoon or amihan continues to affect northern and central Luzon.
The regions of Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Bicol, Eastern Visayas, Davao, and Soccsksargen plus the provinces of Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Romblon, and Marinduque will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms.
The Cordillera, Cagayan Valley, and Central Luzon regions will likewise have cloudy skies with light rains, while the Ilocos region will experience cloudy skies with isolated light rains.
Elsewhere, it will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms.
Winds from the northeast will be light to moderate across the archipelago, while coastal waters will be moderate to rough.
